Mother's Day
I must admit, Mother's Day is not one of my favorite days. One reason I don't like it is that it's a reminder that my mother is no longer with me and secondly, it's a reminder that I haven't been the best mother to my own children. Unfortunately for me, I learned too late that I was really not mother material. Yes I love my children, but I have realized that I am an impatient, tempermental, selfish person and those are not the attributes of a good mother. Of course, my own mother's shadow looms over me and I feel unworthy to even have the title "Mother". I feel more like a caretaker or maybe even a glorified babysitter. And I think that a good mother bestows love and affection on her children, and I don't do that. I'm not, nor have I ever been the "lovey-dovey", "huggy", "kissy" type person. I was raised in a home where I knew my parents loved me, but we were not overly affectionate people. I have tried to instill in my children the values my parents instilled in me, and I can only hope that those values stay with them. So for all you mothers out there, I wish you the very best and a most Happy Mother's Day.

You sell yourself short. You are a wonderful mother. But no one is perfect. Those moms who are visibly affectionate with their children fail in areas where you do not, so lay off it, OK?
BTW, that "mother material" crack has "your sister" written all over it... are you comparing yourself to her?
Don't.
Oh Stace....don't say that you are not 'mother material' we all just grew to be one :) I was once a very impatient & temperamental person too and just being with my children taught me to be cool.
You are cool Stace..have fun with them and don't 'exert' pressure upon yourself to be a Mom. You are one now and have fun :)
Happy Mother's Day :D
Stacie, I think that if you were to live with those "good mothers" for a few days, you'd see that they aren't all that different from you. Deep down, we humans are all "impatient, temperamental, and selfish." I know I am. I have often thought that I was a far-less-than-perfect mother...definitely not "mother material." Doc assures me otherwise, although I sometimes question his judgment. ;)
The best way to be a good mother is to be a good Christian woman and a good wife - set an example in the way your children should go...and grow. Not everyone is the lovey-dovey-affectionate type. And don't say anything about not being a good Christian example - Heaven would be practically empty if only good Christians were allowed in. Living the Christian life includes showing your children that God's grace saves us, not our "good living!"
I've seen the "good mothers" with the very imperfect homes - those kids push the limits and the husband is a warm body, if he's even present. You absolutely cannot compare yourself to any other mother! You are You and "Good Mother" is, well, not always so good.
The values you taught your children will always be in their hearts and minds - just not always at the front of their thinking. Like Art said, don't sell yourself short. God made you, and He gave you those children, and all His works are good!
Stacie, I wish for you peace of mind, the reassurance that God loves you and your family, and a blessed Mother's Day.
Awwww! Stace! I guess you are a perfect mother. all mothers are all those things! I guess that is what being a mother is all about!
HAPPY MOTHER's DAY TO YOU!!!!
Love
Stacie, from one mother to another mother, I want to wish you a very peaceful Mother's Day. You are a daughter of God and a blessing to Him. He loves you...Art loves you...and your little blessings love you, too!
Happy Mother's Day Stace :D
