Ants in the Pants
I'm pretty sure we've all heard that 'ants in the pants' line, joke whatever you want to call it, but sit right back and let me tell you a story. The other evening I was preparing to take a shower and while getting my towels, washcloth, razors, clothing etc, I ran upon a most grievious sight! Now, anyone who knows me knows that there is one thing in particular that I absolutely cannot stand. INSECTS! Insects of any kind, be they flying insects, crawling insects, sliding, squirming, what have you. I abhor them! So, as I open the drawer that contains my (ahem) undergarments, I see the a mass of black ants all over the place. Yes, ants in my proverbial pants! I was livid! Apparantly at some point in time, my little darlings were doing the laundry while at the same time eating/chewing on some sort of taffy that fell into my unmentionables drawer. Thus, those sweet little nasty ants jumped upon the taffy, calling out to their friends to come have a taffy party in my underwear. Well, I instructed the little darlings that they were going to clean out the drawer and make sure that there was no trace of the ants left anywhere and they were to never eat candy while doing laundry ever again. Needless to say, I will probably never use that "ants in the pants" line again.

Time
Isn't it amazing how quickly time passes? I am constantly confounded at how fast the days and months tick by. Here it is and almost half of the year has passed when it seems like we just celebrated the new year. I remember as a child wishing for time to move faster. I couldn't wait for my birthday to arrive or for the end of the school year for the start of summer vacation, and let's not forget the Christmas holidays! And when as a child, older people would warn me not to wish my life away and would tell me that time would pass very quickly once I graduated, I remember thinking they were crazy! Well, let me say here and now I was wrong! They weren't crazy! It's been 17 yrs since I graduated and it seems like it was last year. It seems like my children should still be babies and here I am fixing to be the mother of a teenager. EEEK! It's depressing, but in about a week I will celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the best decision I have ever made in my life! On June 6th 1992, I married my very best friend, my lover, my supporter, my rock, my hero, my everything. God has truly blessed me with a wonderful husband. Words are not near enough to describe him, nor how he makes me feel. In some ways, it seems like only yesterday. I can only hope that the next fifteen, twenty, or God help us forty years will be as happy as the first fifteen.

Love Story
This will be me and my darling husband in about 40 years. Of course, that's IF we live that long. Bless his soul for putting up with me!!
An 80-year-old woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge in Cincinnati he asked her, "What did you steal?" She replied, "A can of peaches."
The judge then asked her why she had stolen the can of peaches and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied "6"
The judge then said, "I will then give you 6 days in jail then." Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment, the woman's husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something.
The judge said, "What is it?" The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas."

Jerry is dead and I don't feel so good myself
Well, by now all the world knows Jerry Falwell is dead. And I've already noticed a lot of blog posts about him. He certainly was a lightening rod. And as I reflect on all the times I've gotten pissed off at something he said, I can't help but wonder who is the Jerry Falwell of my generation? Is there a person out there who can spur people into action whether you're on his side of an arguement or on the opposite side? I don't share his particular brand of theology, however I accept him as a child of God and a brother in Christ. I empathize with his children and pray for the entire Falwell family. Rest in peace Jerry.

My Mother's Day
Thanks to my wonderful husband I had a fabulous Mother's Day. He took me to Carrabbas, my favorite Italian restaurant, bought me two new bottles of my favorite perfumes, arranged for me a manicure/pedicure, and even found time to pick up some little gift sets for the children to give me. Like I said in my previous post, Mother's Day is not my favorite holiday, but bthis year it's really been a good one. I am so blessed with a fantastic, supportive, loving husband. How did I get so lucky? Thank you honey!! I love you!
Thanks to all of you for your supportive comments. I truly appreciate them!!!

Mother's Day
I must admit, Mother's Day is not one of my favorite days. One reason I don't like it is that it's a reminder that my mother is no longer with me and secondly, it's a reminder that I haven't been the best mother to my own children. Unfortunately for me, I learned too late that I was really not mother material. Yes I love my children, but I have realized that I am an impatient, tempermental, selfish person and those are not the attributes of a good mother. Of course, my own mother's shadow looms over me and I feel unworthy to even have the title "Mother". I feel more like a caretaker or maybe even a glorified babysitter. And I think that a good mother bestows love and affection on her children, and I don't do that. I'm not, nor have I ever been the "lovey-dovey", "huggy", "kissy" type person. I was raised in a home where I knew my parents loved me, but we were not overly affectionate people. I have tried to instill in my children the values my parents instilled in me, and I can only hope that those values stay with them. So for all you mothers out there, I wish you the very best and a most Happy Mother's Day.

Stark Raving Lunatic
Warning Rant ahead... I feel like a stark raving lunatic, like I am slowly losing whatever little bits I have left of my mind. Why? My children are literally driving me crazy. I don't think asking for respect or asking for chores to be done correctly is asking too much. But apparantly, it is. Night after night, it's the same thing. The daughter gives attitude, the son complains, nothing gets done, I ask them to do a chore or two, they fuss, what little patience I have goes, I lose my temper, yell, etc and what gets accomplished? Nothing. I honestly don't know if I'll survive the teenage years and we haven't even reached them yet! What on earth can I do to change this? Art works nights so I'm home alone with both children, and it's not feasible for him to change shifts. So, it's all left to me and I'm at a loss. I've said before that I'm heading toward a nervous breakdown and partially it was a joke, but there is some truth to that. So, you mom's out there...do you have any advice for another mom at her wit's end?
New 'Puter
We got a new computer! I am so excited. I have wanted a lap-top forever and now I've got one. Well, I should say WE have one. Even tho my husband keeps referring to it as my computer, it belongs to both of us and I intended on him using it. So, here's what I'm typing on right now.
This bad boy has got to last us for YEARS!! And to that end, the children aren't allowed to touch it, or look at it or even breathe on it. And I'm sure they'll do as I've instructed. Yeah right,.. who am I kidding?? Just myself.
Edit: I totally forgot to mention that gorgeous, amazing, albeit strange Greek God of a man who installed my wireless capabilities. Thanks honey!!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
The change here is obvious. I'm trying out a new template and I haven't decided if I'll keep it or not. Of course, I love it 'cuz it's my very favorite color....GREEN! Then again, I tire quickly with things, so I'll probably keep changing the colors around here, so get used to it. Green it is, for now.

Uses Time Wisely
Well, this weekend, I have certainly used my time wisely. Of course, if my children could keep their rooms clean and their clothing put away, then I wouldn't have to use my time. I know, I'm dreaming! So, this weekend was spent cleaning Tad's room and rearranging toys, sorting through clothing, and taking 12, yes 12 bags of said clothing to the goodwill drop off place. I feel energized to go through my own closet and sort through my clothing as well. And to top it all off, my amazing husband has finished the exterior of our first remodeling project and now he's ready to start with the inside parts. Things are moving rapidly on our remodel. I can't wait until it's all finished! It's exciting. To see more photos, visit Art's blog.
