I Want This!

My husband laughs at me when he catches me ogling this Thing! But I can't help it! I WANT IT! I don't know why, but I'm drawn to it. Art thinks it's ugly, and it is. Maybe that's what it is, it's so ugly and unusual. See, I have this "thing" about wanting things that noone else has, or being different. And I like "classic" cars, now I realize that the Volkswagen Thing may not be on a list of the most "classic" cars, but it is old enough to be considered an antique. I have hinted around about how much I'd like to have this vehicle, stopping just short of saying I WANT IT! I've been hoping that my wonderful husband will pick up on the hints and try to find out all the details about it. I'd do it myself, but I have this "thing" where I think men try to swindle women when it comes to vehicles. I know cars, but when it comes to the inside parts, well, I'm the typical female. I know nothing, except where to put the oil and gas. So, if you try to talk to me about horsepower, or torque, or pistons, etc it sounds to me like Charlie Brown's mother.... Wah Wahh Wah Wah....
So, maybe my wonderful, adoring, fantastic husband will get this hint and check on it for me.. I love you honey!

Wow! You would certainly attract attention driving that Thing around!

Hmmm.

I love you too!

And I picked up on the hints.

And perhaps you don't know my mind quite as well as you think because I have indeed been researching the Volkswagen Thing. Or the Beetle type 181, Kurierwagen, Safari, Trekker, or Whateveryouwanttocallit... which was produced for civilian purchase between the years of 1960 and 1980 and is now considered a 'classic' and enjoys a substantial nostalgic popularity...

I just don't want to buy the one from crazy neighbor DA Bill!

I think it kind of cute.

I saw one of those while driving home from the grocery the other day. It's painted an almost-glow-in-the-dark turquoise color. Very nice!

Art's reply above doesn't sound like he's saying, "No..."

Oh, and it's gotta be a lot safer than that VW micro-bus that I learned to drive in...

;)

I like that thing too and can see why you want it. It's soooo different and unique.

I like it in red - better than turquoise although I haven't seen it in turquoise so what do I know? ;)

Vicki - the point for me would be to attract attention... oh and Art will come around.. he usually gets me what I want. He spoils me terribly! :)

Art - Sweetie, it's not Bill that's crazy, it's his wife.. remember?

Nadine = Great minds, huh?

Vicki & Carolanne - I would have mine in either lime green or orange, or maybe lime green with orange flames...

"... lime green with orange flames...". I shall mention "crazy" no more... ;)

I love both lime green and orange! I think the lime green would attract more attention, however.

My son-in-law bought and restored a golfcart and repainted it Volunteer Orange. It's beautiful! Doc fussed at him a bit, since he should have painted it Wildcat Blue. ;)

Now were talking. Paint it UT orange with a big white power T on the hood.

Art said...

Wait, does the thing have a "hood" since the trunk is where the motor should be?

Anonymous said...

No, no, no...no "T" on the hood/lid/boot/trunk/whachamacallit.

I think I like the lime green idea, with the orange flames. That way, Stacie can at least look like her car will go as fast as yours!

Art said...

Um, my car looks like it's going 100 mph sitting still. No chance.

Art said...

And, if the power T can't be on the hood/trunk/whatever, we could still paint it on the doors:)

Now, Art...this would-be car is Stacie's! You should let her paint it however she wants, even if she chooses hot pink!

Art said...

That's true and I will. But what if I painted flames on my car... then it would look even faster!!!

I'm sure the THP would really keep those radar guns aimed at you, then! Oh, wait...or does your job exclude you from such? ;)

Art said...

No, it doesn't but I have a radar detector... allegedly:)

Radar detector. Hmm.

I keep telling my son that the only reason people buy radar detectors is so they can speed without getting caught. So, does that mean that you're ignoring those big numbers on the white signs posted beside the roadways?
